Referring to a fire that broke out at a club located in Longgang, Shenzhen last night (September 20), a Government spokesman said that up to 8pm today (September 21), the Immigration Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government had received six requests for assistance.
It was initially learnt that these six cases involved the death of five Hong Kong residents and another being injured.
Officers of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong (GDETO) went to Longgang to take follow-up action after they learnt about the fire.
The Deputy Director of GDETO, Ms Alice Choi, said upon her arrival in Longgang: "The HKSAR Government is deeply concerned about the incident. Staff of the Immigration Department has already got in touch with family members of the deceased to offer condolences and assistance".
Ms Choi also went to the hospital to visit the injured Hong Kong resident.
The GDETO will be closely in touch with the Immigration Department to render all practical assistance to any Hong Kong residents who need help.
