HA measures in response to tainted milk products
************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

In response to media enquiries, the Hospital Authority (HA) spokesperson gave the following reply:

Following the recent incidents in which Mainland milk products were tainted with melamine, the HA has issued an operational guideline to all clusters on referral and management of patients suspected to have renal diseases associated with consumption of melamine-tainted milk products.

A designated clinic set up in the HA's Princess Margaret Hospital will provide healthcare services for patients known to have consumed melamine-tainted milk products.  Patients with signs of renal disease will be admitted directly to hospitals through Accident & Emergency Departments for immediate treatment.

Frontline staff will also be updated on the list of tainted milk powders issued by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the Mainland Government and the list of tainted dairy products issued by the local Centre for Food Safety.

The HA will continue to monitor closely the situation and maintain communication with the Centre for Health Protection and the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department to obtain the latest information regarding the affected products.
