Vice-President hails the success of the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian Events

     Vice-President Xi Jinping today (September 14) has sent a congratulatory telegram to the HKSAR Government in connection with the resounding success of the 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian Events in Hong Kong.

     Mr Xi mentioned in the congratulatory telegram that Hong Kong has won unanimous applause from athletes, coaches, officials and spectators in terms of the organisation and arrangement of the events. Hong Kong has also impressed them with good venues, facilities and support services.

     Mr Xi Jinping said: ¡§It is the collaborative efforts of the HKSAR Government, the Equestrian Committee and various sectors of the community.

     "I would like to extend my warm congratulations on the successful games. I would also wish the HKSAR Government and the community would continue with their efforts and work together to promote the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong."

     The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, on behalf of the HKSAR Government expresses heartfelt thanks for the support and encouragement from the Central Government.

     Mr Tsang said: "It is the great honour of Hong Kong to be a co-host city for the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian Events.

     "The participating teams, spectators and the media all highly praised the two Equestrian competitions. The success of the competitions was due to the support from the International Olympic Committee, International Paralympic Committee, Fˆmdˆmration Equestre Internationale, Beijing Organising Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad, Hong Kong Sports Federation and Olympic Committee, Hong Kong Paralympic Committee and Sports Association for the Physically Disabled, Equestrian Events Hong Kong Fund, and Hong Kong Jockey Club. It is also the result of the hard work of the staff of the relevant Government departments and the Equestrian Company and the volunteers as well as the enthusiasm and support from spectators.

     "It is our pleasure to participate in the Beijing Olympics. Hong Kong will continue to work hard for the success of the East Asian Games to be held in 2009, he said.
