The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in August showed a slight decrease of 178 cases over July, representing a decrease of 0.1%, according to the latest CSSA caseload statistics released by the Social Welfare Department today (September 8).
Total CSSA caseload at the end of August stood at 283,632 (see attached table), with a total of 482,647 recipients.
Analysed by case nature, unemployment cases showed a decrease of 0.1% in August to 31,113.
Single parent cases registered a month-to-month decrease of 0.4% in August to 36,337.
Low earning cases showed a month-to-month decrease of 0.8% to stand at 16,412.
Total government expenditure on CSSA payments was about $18 billion for 2007-08.
