Following is the transcript (English portion) of a media session by the Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, after casting his vote in the Legislative Council election at Raimondi College in Mid Levels this (September 7) morning:
Today is the polling day for the 2008 Legislative Council election. This term the competition is particularly keen with more than 200 candidates competing for limited seats. This is a good sign. More and more Hong Kong people, particularly young people, are willing to come out and serve the community, working for the prosperity of Hong Kong and working for social development. And their participation and enthusiasm need our support. Our support is in the form of casting our votes. Just now my wife and I have cast our own votes. I hope all of the electors will be able to come out before 10.30pm today and cast your votes in support of the ideal candidate to serve Hong Kong for the coming four years. These will be particularly trying years in the midst of global financial troubles. We need good legislative councillors to come out to work for the people of Hong Kong and work with the Hong Kong Government to ensure we have a prosperous, stable, calm and harmonious four years.
