Stamp design competition for 60th anniversary of PRC extends deadline

The following is issued on behalf of the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education and the Commission on Youth:

     The Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education and the Commission on Youth, in conjunction with the Home Affairs Bureau and Radio Television Hong Kong, is organising a "Stamp Design Competition for the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China".  It aims to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, to enhance the public's knowledge of national affairs and their sense of national identity and to show the creativity and artistic talent of the public through a national education activity.  The winning entries in the competition may be selected as designs for 2009 stamps.  To encourage more students and the public to participate, the deadline for submission of entries will be extended by two weeks from September 12 to 26, 2008.

     All residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region are eligible.  The competition has three divisions: Open Division, Secondary School Division (F.1-F.7 students) and Primary School Division (P.1-P.6 students).  The entries should consist of a set of six stamps with two stamps on each of the following three themes:

1. Close Partnership of Hong Kong and the Mainland (e.g. CEPA, human resources and cultural exchange).
2. Building and development of China (e.g. infrastructure, development of science, technology, art and culture).
3. Economic and international status of China (e.g. financial status, participation in summits of World Economic Forum and international organisations).

     Participants are to design stamps for the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.  Entries will be assessed on the basis of content, creativity, style, theme rendition and aesthetic appeal of colour use and design, etc.

     For each division, the champion will receive a certificate and a bookstore gift voucher of HK$5,000, the first runner-up a certificate and a bookstore gift voucher of HK$3,000 and the second runner-up a certificate and a gift voucher of HK$1,000.  There will also be 10 merit prizes for each division and each winner will get a certificate and a bookstore gift voucher of HK$500.
