The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, today (September 4) attended the Hong Kong, China, delegation's flag raising ceremony at the Paralympic Village in Beijing to encourage Hong Kong athletes to do their best in the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.
Mr Tsang first watched the final training of Hong Kong boccia athletes this morning. A total of six athletes will represent Hong Kong to compete in the Paralympic boccia events.
He then had lunch with members of the Hong Kong Paralympic Committee and Sports Association for the Physically Disabled and the Hong Kong delegation. Together with the Chef de Mission of the delegation, Mr Patrick Ng, and 21 Hong Kong athletes, Mr Tsang attended the Hong Kong, China, delegation's flag raising ceremony at the Paralympic Village at 2pm.
Mr Tsang said, "Athletes' perseverance and eagerness to excel are what we all appreciate. I hope they can bring home good results by doing their best in the Games."
After the ceremony, Mr Tsang visited the Paralympic Village to see the accommodation facilities for the Hong Kong team, before returning to Hong Kong in the evening.
The Hong Kong team will compete in eight events in the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games. They are athletics, boccia, equestrian, rowing, powerlifting, shooting, table tennis and wheelchair fencing.
