Hong Kong residents reminded to heed safety in Thailand
*******************************************************

With a state of emergency declared in Bangkok, the Security Bureau today (September 2) reminded Hong Kong residents travelling to Thailand to pay attention to personal safety, keep themselves up-to-date on developments there and avoid large gatherings or places of demonstrations.

A spokesman for the Security Bureau said the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government would continue to closely monitor the situation.

Hong Kong residents are also advised to consider adjusting their travel plans to Thailand in view of the situation there.

Hong Kong residents in Thailand who need assistance may contact the local Chinese Embassy/Consulate-General or call the Hong Kong Immigration Department's 24-hour hotline at (852) 1868. The telephone numbers and addresses of the Chinese Embassies/Consulates-General overseas can be obtained by calling the Immigration Department at (852)2824 6111 or (852) 1868.

From August 30 to 4pm today (September 2), the Immigration Department received 27 requests for assistance in relation to the situation in Thailand. Immediate action was taken to follow up on these cases, and 25 cases have now been resolved.
