Percussion concert by Hong Kong YWCA Chinese Orchestra
******************************************************

The Hong Kong YWCA Chinese Orchestra will give a percussion concert, "Pulsing Vibes", next month (September).

Under the baton of Cheng Yuk and Chan Chiu-yin, the orchestra will play classic Chinese percussion works, including "Scenes of Western Hunan", "Jasmine" and "Theme of the Pioneers", and the Hong Kong premiere of "Echoes". The orchestra will also collaborate with local percussionist Chau Chin-tung and percussion group Made in Hong Kong@Four Gig Heads to play "Everlasting Joy", "Pulsing Vibes", "The Camel Bells of the Western Region" and "Dynamic Drumming".

Founded in 1962, the Hong Kong YWCA Chinese Orchestra has a long history in Hong Kong. The orchestra has given regular performances to introduce Chinese folk music of different styles to the public and to provide training and performing opportunities for local young musicians.

Apart from organising concerts, the orchestra also participates actively in social services and performs for voluntary groups, including schools, social centres and elderly centres.

In recent years, the orchestra has collaborated with an array of music virtuosi from the Mainland, as well as top local musicians. In 2007, the orchestra travelled to Melbourne, Australia, to perform in a concert with Chao Feng Chinese Orchestra. It has received great acclaim from audiences and critics alike.

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "Pulsing Vibes" will be held at 3pm, September 28 (Sunday), at the Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall.
