The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (August 26) reminded self-employed people to report their relevant income for the scheme financial year covering the period of December 1, 2007, to February 29, 2008 to their trustees on or before Friday (August 29).
If they don't do so, their eligibility to receive the Government's injection of $6,000 may be affected.
An MPFA spokesperson said if self-employed people were in doubt about the calculation and reporting of their relevant income for the relevant financial year of the scheme, they should contact their trustees. This included whether the relevant income of the scheme financial year they had reported covered the relevant period mentioned.
The MPFA also reminded employees who were employed at any time between March 1, 2007, and February 29, 2008, but their employers did not enrol them in an MPF scheme or an MPF exempted ORSO registered scheme (ORSO scheme), or failed to make contributions, to ask their employers or report to the MPFA on or before October 31, 2008 so the MPFA can check out the employees' relevant income during the period concerned and determine their eligibility to receive the injection.
All information received will be kept in strict confidence. Apart from asking the trustees about the enrolment and contribution status, employees could also check the information on the monthly pay records provided by their employers. Casual employees enrolled in industry schemes could check the information on the monthly contribution records provided by their trustees.
The MPFA is responsible for implementing the Government's injection of $6,000 into the accounts of eligible members of MPF and ORSO schemes. The MPFA will announce the injection schedule and the detailed arrangements by the end of 2008. It plans to begin injection into the accounts of eligible scheme members in the 2008-09 financial year. After the completion of all relevant injection procedures, trustees will notify eligible scheme members that their accounts have been injected with the amount. Scheme members need not file any application for the injection.
