Joint operation to inspect fire safety of karaoke establishments starts

     A one-month joint operation conducted by the Fire Services Department (FSD), Home Affairs Department (HAD), Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) and Buildings Department to inspect the fire safety provisions of all karaoke establishments in old composite buildings started today (August 18).  

     Based on information and evidence collected in the operation, departments concerned will take appropriate action against operators who contravene the relevant regulations and licensing requirements, including prosecution and suspension of licenses. The HAD and FEHD are responsible for licensing matters for karaoke establishments.

     In the operation in Mong Kok, Yau Ma Tei and Wan Chai today, the departments concerned inspected a total of seven karaoke establishments in three composite buildings.

     A spokesman of the FSD said that the fire safety of buildings depends not only on the efforts of government departments, but more importantly on the publicˇ¦s co-operation and support.  The FSD and HAD will continue to step up publicity on fire prevention, and encourage the public to raise their awareness and develop good habits on fire safety.
