Statement by the Housing Branch of the Transport and Housing Bureau
************************************************************

The following is a statement issued by the Housing Branch of the Transport and Housing Bureau today (August 15):

The Housing Branch of the Transport and Housing Bureau was consulted by the Civil Service Bureau (CSB) on Mr Leung Chin-man's application to join the New World China Land Limited.  Since Mr Leung has ceased active service with the Government for more than two years, and his proposed appointment would involve business in the Mainland only, the Housing Branch considered that Mr Leung's proposed appointment would not constitute a conflict of interest with his former duties in the Government. However, as pointed out by the Secretary for the Civil Service in her meeting with the media, we had not considered Mr Leung's involvement in the Hunghom Peninsula development when we processed his application. On this, we would like to express our sincere apologies.  We will render our full support to the CSB in their follow-up action to prepare the re-assessment requested by the Chief Executive as soon as possible.
