The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (August 15) obtained two orders for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $330,000 against two employers in the District Court. Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued two claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $50,000 on behalf of five employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
The District Court today issued judgments against two employers, namely, Luen Kwong Electrical Engineering Company Ltd and Sino Communication Limited. The defendants were ordered to pay the MPFA the sums of $235,594.80 and $100,680.47, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to four and 30 employees of the defendants respectively.
Meanwhile, at the tribunal's hearing today, one of the defendants, Chan Chi Ming formerly trading as Yeung Shing Restaurant, did not dispute the amount claimed. The adjudicator ordered him to pay the MPFA the sum of $21,481.25, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other defendant, Elique Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In its absence, the adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $28,061.4, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court ordered the defendants to pay costs of $930. The tribunal ordered the defendants to pay $241 and $110 as the costs in respect of the claims.
