In response to media enquiries on the two paediatric cases (9-year-old and 7-year-old girls) announced by Centre for Health Protection today (August 13), the spokesperson of Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH) gave the following reply:
The 9-year-old girl admitted to the Accident and Emergency Department at around 11pm on August 12 presenting with symptoms of myocarditis and was then transferred to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU); the girl passed away at around 2am today. The case will be referred to the Coroner. PWH expressed condolences to the family of the deceased patient.
The 7-year-old girl admitted to the Accident and Emergency Department on August 8 for fever and convulsions. She later developed symptoms of encephalitis. She is at present staying in PICU and her condition is serious.
