Nominations for Yau Tsim Mong DC by-election open tomorrow

     The nomination period for the by-election in the Jordan East Constituency of the Yau Tsim Mong District Council to fill the vacant office of an elected member will start tomorrow (August 14) and run until August 27.

     "A nominee must be a registered geographical constituency elector aged 21 or above who has ordinarily resided in Hong Kong for the three years immediately before his or her nomination," a spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office said today (August 13).

     "A nomination must be subscribed to by 10 registered electors of the constituency. Each elector is allowed to subscribe to only one nomination," he said.

     The nominee must personally submit the completed nomination form, together with an election deposit of $3,000, to the Returning Officer for the by-election. Nominations are accepted from 9am to 5pm, Mondays to Fridays, and from 9am to noon on Saturdays during the nomination period.

     The Returning Officer for the by-election is the District Officer (Yau Tsim Mong), whose office is located at 6/F, Mong Kok Government Offices, 30 Luen Wan Street, Mong Kok, Kowloon.

     Nomination forms and the Guidelines on Election-related Activities in respect of the District Council Election that apply to the by-election are available at the office of the Returning Officer and can be downloaded at www.reo.gov.hk.

     Nomination forms and the Guidelines are also available at the Registration and Electoral Office at 10/F, Harbour Centre, 25 Harbour Road, Wan Chai, and at 10/F, Guardian House, 32 Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai. Both offices will extend their service hours to include Saturday mornings during the nomination period.

     Nominees are advised to submit their nominations early so that they will have time to rectify any mistakes in the forms before the close of nomination.

     A poll will be held on Sunday, October 5, if there is more than one validly nominated candidate.
