Nederlands Dans Theatre I opens New Vision Arts Festival (with photos)
*********************************************************

     The coming New Vision Arts Festival offers something for everyone to explore new frontiers in the arts -- from the stunning triple bill by legendary modern dance troupe Nederlands Dans Theatre I, to the visually dazzling and emotionally enthralling "The Tempest" directed by Tsui Hark for the Contemporary Legend Theatre of Taiwan, to Li Liuyi New Drama's "Liang Hongyu", a production co-commissioned by the New Vision Arts Festival and the Holland Festival.

     Organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), the biennial arts festival will run from October 23 to November 23 to showcase a selection of cutting-edge performances. Breaking new ground in music, dance, theatre and multi-media crossover, the festival will feature a programme of East-West cultural integration with a contemporary Asian focus.

     A leaflet on the New Vision Arts Festival is now available at the LCSD's performing arts venues.

     Opening the festival is the co-commissioned work by Wayne McGregor with Nederlands Dans Theater I (NDT1), one of the world's leading dance companies, together with "Tar and Feathers" and "Shoot the Moon" by NDT resident choreographers Jiri Kylian and Lightfoot Leon. Performances will be from October 23 to 25.

     The closing performance "The Will to Build" is an innovative verbatim theatre production by Theatre du Pif in collaboration with UK video artist Burst TV.  Through a series of interviews with property tycoons, construction workers, architects, feng shui masters, politicians, and the inhabitants of the city's various housing projects, it gives first-hand accounts of those intimately involved in and affected by Hong Kong's never-ending cycle of construction and destruction.

     The festival will also feature:
* Liu Sola & Friends Ensemble, Ensemble Modern (Germany) chamber opera "Fantasy of the Red Queen".
* Huong Thanh & Nguyˆ§n Lˆ§ Septet (Vietnam / France)'s "Fragile Beauty".
* Pichet Klunchun (Thailand), Jˆmr?me Bel (France) & Pichet Klunchun Dance Company (Thailand)'s "About Khon".
* Dean Moss (USA) and Kim Yoon-jin (South Korea)'s "Kisaeng Becomes You".
* Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra's Yo-Yo Ma concert and "Exotic birds and sad songs" concert.
* Yo-Yo Ma & Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra.
* Zuni Icosahedron's "Zuni History Theatre: God Came to China".
* On & On Theatre Workshop and Mobius Strip Theatre of Taiwan's "In the Solitude of Cotton Fields".
* Yat Po Singers's "Rock Hard".

     Apart from performances, the festival also offers innovative multi-media installations, workshops, lecture demonstrations, meet-the-artists sessions and outdoor shows.
