Applications open for Beat Drugs Fund special funding exercise
******************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Secretariat of the Beat Drugs Fund Association:

A special funding exercise for the Beat Drugs Fund is open for applications from today (August 8) until September 12.  Organisations and individuals may submit applications to the Secretariat of Beat Drugs Fund during this period.

The project theme for this special funding exercise is "Anti-drug Resource Kits for the School Sector".  The successful applicant should design the kits for three target groups of users - school management; guidance and discipline teachers and school social workers; and class or subject teachers.

The anti-drug resource kits for the school sector will provide suitable reference and guidance to facilitate these three groups of school personnel in planning and implementing anti-drug programmes and handling drug incidents in schools.  The kits will serve as a basis for training as well as an information repository for reference or deployment.  The kits will also enhance teachers' skills and knowledge in dealing with at-risk students so that early intervention can be applied.  A web-based version of the kits for online access will also be delivered to facilitate use by members of the education sector.

Detailed information including the format, duration and budget is set out in the project brief attached to the Guide to Application for applicants' reference.  The guide and the application form are available on the website of the Narcotics Division, Security Bureau (www.nd.gov.hk/beat.htm).  They can also be collected in person at the Secretariat of the Beat Drugs Fund Association (30/F, High Block) and the Hong Kong Jockey Club Drug InfoCentre (Roof Floor, Low Block) at Queensway Government Offices, 66 Queensway; all Public Enquiry Service Centres of the Home Affairs Department; and the District Social Welfare Offices of the Social Welfare Department.

Enquiries are welcome by phone at 2867 2737 or 2867 2286; by fax at 2810 1790; or via email to (sbeon4@sb.gov.hk).

The Beat Drugs Fund was set up by the Government in 1996 with a capital base of $350 million to fund worthwhile projects that can contribute to the fight against drug abuse in Hong Kong.

In November, 2007, the Beat Drugs Fund Association established a special funding scheme to support the measures proposed by the Task Force on Youth Drug Abuse.
