Secondary 6 Admission Procedure Stage IV postponed until tomorrow
*********************************************************

The Education Bureau has reminded candidates of the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination who wish to seek Secondary 6 places that the Secondary Six Admission Procedure Stage IV has been postponed from today (August 6) to tomorrow (August 7) because of the tropical cyclone. The time for application remains unchanged - from 9am to 4.30pm. Eligible students may apply to schools still with S6 vacancies.

A bureau spokesman said, "We are very concerned about some students and parents waiting outside schools for vacancies under adverse weather conditions earlier today.  Our regional officers have taken immediate action by contacting these schools to offer assistance to make sure that the situation is improved in the shortest time possible.

"We would like to stress that the Secondary Six Admission Procedure has a well-established mechanism for its different stages and has been running smoothly over the years. We shall write to schools to remind them to strictly follow the guidelines laid down in the mechanism when they resume the operation of Stage IV of the Procedure tomorrow. Parents and students can be assured that the vacancies will not be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis," the spokesman said.

"We shall keep in close contact with schools and offer help to ensure the smooth operation of the remaining stages of the Secondary Six Admission Procedure."
