The spokesperson of Cheshire Home, Shatin (SCH), made the following announcement today (August 5):
Two male and four female patients (aged 68 to 101) of an Infirmary Ward in SCH have presented with symptoms of influenza-like illness since August 3. Five of the patients are being treated under isolation and all are in stable condition. The other patient was transferred to Prince of Wales Hospital on August 3 for treatment and passed away this morning due to his underlying illness. Appropriate tests were arranged for the patients. Viral test results of four patients are positive for Influenza A. Two staff members of the ward have presented with fever and respiratory symptoms and now are on sick leave.
Infection control measures have been enhanced in the ward concerned. There will be no new admissions and no visits to the ward for the time being. All patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
