The Miranda Chin Dance Company (MCDC) will present its latest production, ¡§The Rhythmic Fantasy of Chinese QuintEssence¡¨, which is inspired by traditions and is innovative in forming new interpretations of Chinese dance.
The traditional elements of the production include ¡§Dragon Song¡¨ which unfurls the totemic culture of China¡¦s ethnic groups; ¡§Celestial Dance¡¨ and ¡§Spring on Moonlit River¡¨ which are taken from Tang Dynasty poetry and the murals of the Dunhuang Grottoes; the elegant and graceful ¡§Peacocks in a Picture¡¨ and the ribbon dance ¡§Reflections on the Water¡¨ which demonstrates the curvilinear grace of Chinese dance through hand, eye and body movements, control and footwork; and ¡§Vigorous Drums¡¨ which captures the excitement of folk celebrations.
The company¡¦s artistic director Miranda Chin has been choreographing her Chinese Martial Arts Dance Series since 2001. She has some of the most representative pieces from the Series for ¡§The Rhythmic Fantasy of Chinese QuintEssence¡¨. It aims to display the multi-cultural aspects of Hong Kong, and the production is made up of the ¡§four seasons¡¨, in an attempt to bring out the macrocosmic outlook of the Chinese, who see Man and Heaven as one.
As the founder of the Miranda Chin Dance Company, Miranda Chin is dedicated to promoting Chinese dance. The company¡¦s vitality lies both in creativity and its endeavours at opening up new horizons by blending the essence of Eastern and Western dance, aspiring to reflect the uniqueness of Hong Kong culture in modern dance. Recent credits include ¡§Innovative Chinese Rhythms & Movements¡¨, ¡§Calligraphy Fantasia¡¨, ¡§Four Seasons¡¨ and ¡§Chinese Martial Arts Dance¡¨ which received high acclaim. Recently, the Miranda Chin Dance Company performed in a cultural spectacular celebrating the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), ¡§Rhythmic Fantasy of Chinese QuintEssence¡¨ by the Miranda Chin Dance Company will be at 8pm on September 5 (Friday) at the Auditorium, Sha Tin Town Hall; and at 3pm on September 7 (Sunday) at the Auditorium, Tuen Mun Town Hall. Tickets priced from $80 to $150 are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concessions will be granted to senior citizens aged 60 or over, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients.
