Applications open for employment programmes
*******************************************

Applications for the Youth Pre-employment Training Programme (YPTP) and the Youth Work Experience and Training Scheme (YWETS) run by the Labour Department are now open. The two programmes provide a full range of pre-employment and on-the-job training to young people aged 15 to 24 with educational attainment below the degree level.

Admission is free of charge.  Current school leavers and other interested youths are welcome to join.

Application forms can be obtained from the YPTP and YWETS Offices, Job Centres and the Youth Employment Start of the Labour Department, Public Enquiry Service Centres of the Home Affairs Department, District Offices of the Social Welfare Department, relevant training bodies or the Youth Employment Services website: www.yes.labour.gov.hk.

A Labour Department spokesman said, "With the benefit of a 'revolving door' mechanism, trainees receive 'through-train' pre-employment and on-the-job training support throughout a programme year.  In addition, the two programmes jointly organise tailor-made training projects to flexibly address employers' recruitment needs and trainees' interests.  The YWETS also launches industry-based employment projects to enhance the employment opportunities and job skills of trainees."

"In 2008-09, the 'IT Seeds' Project under the YWETS will offer more than 300 training vacancies for young people with education level of Form 5.  Recruitment days will be held from 9am to 5pm from August 8 (Friday) to August 10 (Sunday) at the Pui Ching Education Centre, 42 Gascoigne Road, Kowloon.  Interested applicants can bring along documents of their educational attainment for on-the-spot application and interviews."

The monthly salary of 'IT Seeds' trainees for 2008-09 is $5,250.  Apart from receiving one-year on-the-job training at the participating schools starting from September, each trainee will be released one day each week to attend a certificate course on IT skills run by the Pui Ching Education Centre free of charge.  Trainees on completion of the 'IT Seeds' Project may join the 'E-leader' training programme of YWETS, through which they will receive further on-the-job and related classroom training to better prepare them for employment or further study.

For enquiries about the joint application and the 'IT Seeds' Project, please call the hotline of youth employment services on 2112 9932.
