Following the earlier announcement on seven patients in a male medical ward of Grantham Hospital presenting with symptoms of influenza like illness, the hospital announced the following updates today (July 31):
Two more patients (aged 68 and 76 ) presented with fever and respiratory symptoms. These two patients are being isolated for treatment and in stable condition. Since July 26, nine patients have presented with the symptoms. All nine patients are tested positive to Influenza A virus.
All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance. Admission and visits to the ward have been suspended. Infection control measures have already been reinforced. Thorough cleaning and disinfection have been carried out in the ward.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
