Unlicensed food factory in Kowloon City raided

¡@¡@Officers of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) today (July 25) raided an unlicensed food factory in a flat at 27 Kai Tak Road, Kowloon City, and seized about 20 kilogrammes of cooked rice, 210 kilogrammes of rice, 30 kilogrammes of canned food and some cooking paraphernalia.

¡@¡@A man was arrested in the operation and is assisting investigations.

¡@¡@Under the Food Business Regulation, the maximum penalty for operating an unlicensed food factory, upon conviction, is a fine of $50,000 and six months' imprisonment.

¡@¡@"We will continue to take stringent enforcement action against unlicensed food businesses to safeguard food safety and public health," an FEHD spokesman said.

¡@¡@"People should report such illegal activities through the department's hotline at 2868 0000."
