************************************************************

The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, today (July 23) was on the fifth day of his tour to the three northeast Mainland provinces with a Hong Kong business delegation.

In the morning, the delegation attended the Hong Kong-Jilin Business Co-operation Symposium. Speaking at the symposium, Mr Tsang said that by the end of 2007, about 520 Hong Kong companies had established business in Jilin, with an investment reaching US$ 1.8 billion. Ten enterprises from Jilin had invested in Hong Kong, with a capital totalling more than US$16 million.  There were also six Jilin enterprises listed in Hong Kong. All these demonstrated the achievement of close co-operation between the two places.

He added that Hong Kong could help Jilin companies further develop technology and increase productivity, noting that researchers of the two places could co-operate closely in their work. Jilin enterprises could also set up branches in Hong Kong, using Hong Kong's marketing expertise to develop their brands and reach out to the international market.

The delegation attended a networking lunch after the symposium and then left for Shenyang in Liaoning Province.

In Shenyang, they had a meeting with senior officials of the Liaoning Provincial Government before attending a welcome dinner.
