The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mrs Rita Lau, met the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Mr Pascal Lamy, today (July 20) to reaffirm Hong Kong's support on early conclusion of the Doha Round of multilateral trade negotiations.
Mrs Lau is in Geneva, Switzerland, to attend ministerial meetings relating to WTO negotiations on Agriculture and Non-Agricultural Market Access, and participate in a signaling conference on services in the coming week.
She had a bilateral meeting with the Swiss Minister of Economic Affairs and Federal Councillor, Ms Doris Leuthard yesterday to exchange views on areas of mutual interests.
"Hong Kong, China and Switzerland both shared common ground on the support of free trade, and pledged to support the ministerial meetings at the World Trade Organization (WTO) in coming week with a view to facilitating a successful conclusion of the Doha Round of multilateral trade negotiations by the end of 2008," Mrs Lau said.
