The following is issued on behalf of the Equestrian Events (Hong Kong) of The Games of the XXIX Olympiad Company:
A memorial service was held this evening (July 18) at a Hung Hom funeral parlour for Equestrian Events volunteer Nancy Tang, who was fatally injured in a traffic accident last month.
Led by the Chief Executive Officer of The Equestrian Company (EqCo), Mr Lam Woon-kwong, a number of EqCo staff paid their last tributes to the late Miss Tang.
Miss Tang died on June 23, after being involved in a traffic accident on June 21. She was on her way to a Volunteer Training Programme in the Sha Tin competition venue.
The service began with a minute's silence followed by a eulogy by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Henry Tang, read out by Mr Lam.
Mr Lam and the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Ms Miranda Chiu, each also delivered a eulogy.
Mr Lam spoke highly of Miss Tang as an exceptional young woman who had outstanding leadership qualities. She was a team leader in the Media Services division during the Good Luck Beijing - HKSAR 10th Anniversary Cup Eventing Competition last August and immediately signed up for the Equestrian Events of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. She was again assigned a team leader's role.
"Nancy was well liked by her colleagues and fellow volunteers and was always willing to help out with any task assigned to her. With her charming personality, she was totally undaunted by the responsibilities of her job. She will be sadly missed," said Mr Lam.
