Employer ordered to pay MPF non-payment

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (18 July) pursued one claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $23,000 on behalf of one employee, who was owed MPF contributions by the employer.

    At the Tribunal's hearing today, the defendant, Kim Pyung Kwon formerly trading as Three-Five Korean Restaurant, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered him to pay the MPFA the sum of $23,625, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

    The amount awarded will be reimbursed to the employee¡¦s MPF account as soon as it is received by the MPFA. The Tribunal further ordered the defendant to pay $130 as the cost in respect of the claim.
