Food premises ordered to close
******************************

The Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene today (July 16) issued an order to temporarily close a restaurant in Yau Ma Tei for thorough cleaning and disinfection.

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) was informed by
the Department of Health of nine suspected food poisoning outbreaks
involving 34 people related to ˇ§Okubo Japanese Restaurantˇ¨ on Upper Ground Floor, Ginza Square, 565-567 Nathan Road.

"As the food poisoning outbreaks show signs of continuation, there are epidemiological grounds to support the temporary closure of the food
premises for thorough cleaning and disinfection," an FEHD spokesman said.

The food premises will remain closed until the Director of Food and
Environmental Hygiene is fully satisfied that the immediate health hazards on the premises have been eliminated.

Under the Public Health and Municipal Services Ordinance, the Director is empowered to quickly close premises that pose an immediate health hazard to the public.
