This figurine of rider and horse with gold-leafed armour would have been part of the Crown Prince's guard of honour. Apart from flaunting imperial prestige and the might of the Tang dynasty cavalry, this figurine of an armoured horse also corroborates with the textual references to the gold and silver armour that were donned at military and civil ceremonies involving the imperial family.   Close
