A figurine of a lightly tacked up guard-of-honour horse from the Northern Dynasties. When the Tuoba clan of the Xianbei people established its dynastic rule in northern China, ceremonial horses decked out in Xianbei-style horse tack began to appear among funerary objects. Sculpted in great detail, this horse displays a more lifelike manner than the pottery horses of the Eastern Han period. The bridle, breast strap and the ornaments on them, as well as its saddle, saddle pad and mud guards, are all styled in the fashion of the time
