Monthly flag-raising ceremonies by youth groups at Golden Bauhinia Square

    Flag-raising ceremonies at Golden Bauhinia Square, Wan Chai will be conducted by youth groups on the second Sunday of each month starting this month (July).

    Police have been responsible for flag-raising every day at Golden Bauhinia Square.  As an initiative to promote national education, young people will be given the opportunity to conduct flag-raising ceremonies at Golden Bauhinia Square.  This arrangement will start from tomorrow (July 13) while the police will continue to raise flags on all other days.

    Youths participating in this programme will have been recommended by leaders from various uniformed groups and will have received specialised training for conducting the ceremony at Golden Bauhinia Square.

    Participating organisations are Hong Kong Adventure Corps, Scout Association of Hong Kong, Hong Kong St John Ambulance, Civil Aid Service, Hong Kong Sea Cadet Corps, Hong Kong Girl Guides Association, The Girls¡¦ Brigade (Hong Kong), The Boys¡¦ Brigade, Hong Kong, Hong Kong Red Cross, Hong Kong Air Cadet Corps and Hong Kong Road Safety Association.

    The Police College has provided appropriate training to ensure that participating groups understand the standards and protocol for flag-raising at Golden Bauhinia Square.

    In case of adverse weather, the flag-raising ceremony conducted by youth groups shall be deferred to the following week.  Should the ceremony again be cancelled due to bad weather, flag-raising by youths will not be conducted that month.
