E-version of Careers Guidance Handbook for S5 graduates released

    E-version of the "Careers Guidance Handbook for Secondary 5 Graduates 2008-2009" WAS posted today (July 11) on the website of the Education Bureau (EDB) at www.edb.gov.hk/cgs and hardcopies will be distributed from July 18 to help Secondary Five (S5) graduates prepare for the release of the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) results.

    The handbook, jointly compiled by EDB and the Hong Kong Association of Careers Masters and Guidance Masters (HKACMGM), provides comprehensive information on further studies, vocational training and career paths for S5 graduates.

    It also outlines the Secondary Six (S6) Admission Procedure, which will start from August 4 (the date of release of HKCEE results), provides details of the S6 curriculum being offered by secondary schools and information on the counting of points of the Applied Learning Courses and/or recognition of alternative Chinese Language qualifications by individual secondary schools in the S6 Admission Procedure.

    This year, secondary schools in Tai Po, North, Sai Kung, Sha Tin, Tuen Mun, Yuen Long, Tsuen Wan & Kwai Tsing and Islands Districts will organise Joint Admission Centres to admit students from other schools to their S6. The details of the respective Secondary Six Joint Admission Schemes are also included.

    The handbook also provides information about the study paths for S5 graduates, S5 courses for repeaters, professional and vocational training courses, sub-degree courses, Project Yi Jin, non-local further study opportunities as well as relevant information for non-Chinese speaking students.

    Also included are articles on student guidance contributed by HKACMGM members and a contact list of education and advisory organisations.

    From July 18, students can obtain the handbook for free from their own schools. Copies will also be available from EDB's Regional Education Offices, the Labour Department's "Youth Employment Start" offices and Job Centres, and the Home Affairs Department's Public Enquiry Service Centres.
