The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (July 11) pursued 11 claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $265,000 on behalf of 49 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
At the tribunal's hearing today, four defendants, Painting International Management Limited, World Ocean Holdings Limited, Wong Kong Wing trading as Accurate Printing Company and International Art Institute Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $42,653.81, $22,025.46, $9,140.49 and $6,505.84, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other seven defendants, Sung Kam Lin Irene trading as Chor Kee Roast Meat Rest, Lead Young Sea & Air Freight Co Limited, Lam Bun Kee Engineering Ltd, Venus Group Limited, Rich Kind Limited trading as Mini Paris Vietnamese Restaurant, Tam Yuk Yee trading as Luen Fat Fruit Wholesale, and Lai Hin Fai, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $43,092.50, $32,040.50, $26,025.00, $22,417.50, $6,355.51, $200 and $4,721.96, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded at the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal ordered the respective defendants to pay $250, $216, $160, $106, $250, $90, $126, $206, $131, $140 and $300 as the costs in respect of the claims.
Painting International Management Limited pleaded guilty previously at Kwun Tong Magistracy to four counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and was fined $5,000.
