Vice-President Xi briefed on monetary affairs and infrastructure (with photos/video)

    Vice-President Xi Jinping today (July 7) started the second day of his visit to Hong Kong by visiting the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA).

    Accompanied by the Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, Mr Xi was met by the Chief Executive of the HKMA, Mr Joseph Yam, on arrival at Two ifc (International Finance Centre).

    On the 55th floor, where the HKMA¡¦s Information Centre is located, Mr Xi was briefed by Mr Yam on the evolution of Hong Kong¡¦s Linked Exchange Rate System, banknotes in circulation in Hong Kong, the printing procedure of banknotes and the comparison between genuine and counterfeit notes.

    On the 56th floor, Mr Xi was met by Chief Secretary Mr Henry Tang, Secretary for Development Mrs Carrie Lam and Secretary for Transport and Housing Ms Eva Cheng.

    Through the glass curtain wall, Mr Xi had a view of the harbour and the infrastructural changes taking place.

    He also received a briefing on Hong Kong¡¦s 10 major infrastructure projects, as well as development plans for the West Kowloon Cultural District and other areas on both sides of the harbour.
