The Social Welfare Department will provide a monthly Transport Supplement of $200 to Disability Allowance (DA) recipients aged between 12 and 64, and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients in the same age group with 100% disability with effect from this month (July).
A department spokesman said today (July 2) that the Financial Secretary proposed in his 2008-09 Budget Speech to provide an additional supplement of $200 a month to these DA recipients and CSSA recipients to encourage them to participate more in activities away from home and enhance their integration into society.
It is estimated that the provision of the Transport Supplement to welfare recipients will involve annual recurrent expenditure of $230 million. The Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved the financial allocation on May 16 for implementing the measure.
The monthly Transport Supplement will be credited together with the monthly CSSA or DA to the recipients' bank account for the receipt of CSSA or DA with effect from July. Recipients are not required to make an application for the supplement.
For enquiries, welfare recipients can call the Social Welfare Department's hotline 2343 2255 or their respective social security field units.
