One of the exhibits, an ink painting 'Horse under a Tree' by Zhang Mu. Horses were often a means to express Zhang's feelings about life, particularly since he was living in the turbulence period when the Qing dynasty was replacing the Ming regime. The painter's feelings can be inferred from the work: the old tree constitutes a bleak and gloomy mood, while the fine horse under the tree expresses his sorrow of being born untimely in the wrong era when talents were wasted.
