The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will present "Resonances of Shanghai" in August.
Under the baton of artistic director and conductor Wang Fujian, the Shanghai Chinese Orchestra brings back old Shanghai memories by playing many everlasting Chinese orchestral masterpieces to Hong Kong, including "A Rosy Dawn on the Bund", "Narrative Singing in Shanghai", new version of "Shanghai by Night", "Song of the General", and "Moonlight on the Spring River".
The Shanghai Chinese Orchestra, founded in 1952, is the first Chinese orchestra with a modern, full-scale set-up in China. Over the years, it has become known for its lyrical timbre, distinguished style and virtuosity. Based in cosmopolitan Shanghai, the orchestra has continued to evolve and improve. It has, among its members, many famous artists who are recitalists in their own right. Its versatility is reflected in its wide-ranging repertoire which enables it to perform orchestral music with magnificent sounds, or, the winds and strings of Jiangnan Sizhu, Cantonese music, plucked-strings and drum music as small to medium-sized ensembles.
Members of the orchestra have performed in all parts of the world, and have won critical and popular acclaims. Renowned soloists to perform in the coming concerts include Min Huifen (Erhu), Luo Xiaoci (Zheng), Qian Jun (Dizi), Hu Chenyun (Suona), Yu Bin (Pipa), Zhou Tao (Pipa), Zhao Lei (Erhu), Song Yibo (Percussion), Wang Yinrui (Percussion), Chen Huanting (Percussion).
