CSD staff live up to the spirit of care
***************************************

About 120 members of the Correctional Services Department (CSD) today (June 24) donated blood to the Hong Kong Red Cross to show their care for the community.

Joining today's blood donation were Commissioner of Correctional Services, Mr Kwok Leung-ming, new recruits undergoing training at Staff Training Institute and retired staff.

Among them, Assistant Officer II Lo Chun-yan, 30, is a frequent blood donor. Mr Lo first gave blood in 1993 and has since then become a regular blood donor at Red Cross centres.

Also at today's blood donation was retired Superintendent of Correctional Services, Mr Wong Hon-to, 56, who first gave blood in 1979 when he was stationed in Tong Fuk Centre. He was the Director of the Correctional Services Staff Volunteer Group (CSSVG) before his retirement in early 2008. The total service hours of CSSVG exceeded 10,000 hours in 2007.

They said donating blood was very meaningful because through it, they had an opportunity to live up to CSD's caring tradition. They said they would continue to give blood and appealed to members of the public to join them for the invaluable help to those in need and save lives.

CSD in February was awarded the "Total Caring Award" and the third consecutive "Caring Organisation Logo", a recognition of the department as a socially responsible organisation and a caring employer. The "Total Caring Award" honours organisation demonstrating continual, sustainable and total commitment in caring for the well-being of employees, their families and the community.
