Company fined for illegal club operation
****************************************

A company that had been operating a clubhouse with a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) in North Point was today (June 24) fined $3,000 for contravening the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

The Eastern Magistrates' Court heard that a club in King's Road, North Point, had been operating with a CoC under the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.  An inspection of the club was conducted by the Office of the Licensing Authority (OLA) of the Home Affairs Department in December last year.

During the investigation, officers of the OLA, posing as customers, patronised the club for lunch without being asked to show their membership status or being invited to join the club as members.  Furthermore, it was found that the club was operating outside the licensed area as shown on the registered drawing.  The company, holder of the CoC, was found to be in contravention of the Special Condition 1 and Condition 18 of the CoC. It was subsequently charged with contravening section 21(2) of the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

A spokesman for the department said robust enforcement action would continue to be taken against illegal clubhouse operations.
