Public forums to be held on copyright protection in the digital environment
********************************************************

The Government will hold two public discussion forums on July 12 and 26 (Saturday), for members of the public to discuss issues related to copyright protection in the digital environment. The forums are part of the public engagement exercise following the release of the Administration's preliminary proposals on the subject in April 2008.

The forums will be held from 3pm to 4.30pm. Distinguished guest speakers, including representatives of copyright owners, online service providers and the legal profession/academia, will share their views on the Government's preliminary proposals at the forums. Those interested in participating in the discussion may register with the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau on www.cedb.gov.hk/citb/ehtml/pop.html or at 2918 7485.

"The Government aims to facilitate a constructive discussion among members of the public and stakeholders on the issues concerned, with a view to building a broad consensus on the way forward," a bureau spokesman said.

Apart from participating in the forums, members of the public may send in their views by email to co_consultation@cedb.gov.hk, by fax to 2869 4420, or by post to Level 29, One Pacific Place, 88 Queensway, Hong Kong, for attention of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Branch, Commerce and Economic Development Bureau, on or before August 31, 2008.
