About 200 musicians from the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra (USA), the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Music Office Youth Choir will jointly perform in a cultural exchange concert at 8pm on June 29 (Sunday) at the Ko Shan Theatre.
The concert is organised by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
Under the baton of the Resident Conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony and Music Director of the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony, Daniel Meyer, together with Music Office instructors Joseph Kam and Angelina Au, the musicians will perform pieces of sublime beauty.
The programme comprises Mozart's "Coronation Mass in C Major, K.317", Prokofiev's "Romeo and Juliet Ballet Suite No.2, Montagues and Capulets", Zhou Tian's "The Palace of the Nine Perfections", Torke's "Javelin", Verdi's "La forza del destino Overture" and Rachmaninoff's "Symphonic Dances".
Founded in 1946, the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra aims to provide educational opportunities and orchestral training for young musicians in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The orchestra currently comprises 90 musicians, aged from 14 to 21.
It has also participated in various international youth orchestra festivals and has won awards for outstanding performances.
The Music Office is dedicated to organising music exchange concerts and community performances for visiting youth music groups from around the world. It also arranges for its orchestras, bands and choirs to go on concert tours abroad and to the Mainland to foster international cultural exchange and widen the horizons of local young musicians.
Tickets priced at $80, $60 and $40 for the concert are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concessions are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients.
