The Government today (June 20) announced the appointment of three new board members and the re-appointment of four incumbent board members to the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTPC).
Dr John Chai Yat-chiu, Mr Tony Choi Siu-chow and Ms Eliza Chan Ching-har are appointed as new members of the HKSTPC for a period of two years from July 1, 2008.
Mr Humphrey Choi, Mr Locky Chu Kwan-lam, Mr Tom Tang Chung-yen and Mr Wong Ming-yam are re-appointed as board members of the HKSTPC for a period of two years from July 1, 2008.
The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Frederick Ma, said, "We are confident that these new members, with their impressive expertise and knowledge, will help the corporation to enhance Hong Kong's position as a regional centre for innovation and technology."
In the meantime, the term of appointment of an incumbent member of the board, Mr Wong Kai-man, will expire on June 30.
"Mr Wong has provided valuable contributions to steering the corporation in pursuing its public mission. The achievement of the corporation is due in no small part to his guidance and wise counsel," Mr Ma added.
The HKSTPC, which began operations on May 7, 2001, manages the Science Park, three industrial estates and the InnoCentre and supports innovation and technology development in Hong Kong. It provides a comprehensive range of services to cater for the needs of industry at various stages, from nurturing technology start-ups through the incubation programme, providing premises and services in the Science Park for applied research and development activities, and creating and sustaining a design cluster at the InnoCentre, to providing developed land in the industrial estates for production.
Together with an official member appointed on an ex-officio basis, the board of directors of the corporation comprises 15 members, including the chairman. The membership of the full board of directors is as follows:
