EDB and SFAA to co-operate with ICAC's investigation
****************************************************

An Education Bureau (EDB) spokesman said today (June 19) that the Bureau and the Student Financial Assistance Agency (SFAA) would fully co-operate with the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) on its investigation into allegedly fraudulent applications for loans under a non-means-tested loan scheme (NLS) managed by SFAA.

The spokesman added that EDB and SFAA would provide assistance in support of the investigation.

He said, "We understand that the ICAC is now investigating suspected fraudulent applications for loans under the NLS managed by the SFAA."

"While the investigation is underway, it is inappropriate for EDB and SFAA to comment on the case."

"The EDB and SFAA will review the vetting procedures of the concerned loan scheme and will seek advice from ICAC's Corruption Prevention Department on  improvement measures to prevent abuse of the loan scheme and ensure proper use of public money." the spokesman reiterated.
