Employer fined $10,000 for violation of safety rule

    Security Alliance Limited was fined $10,000 at Kowloon City Magistrates' Court today (June 17) for violation of the Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance. The prosecution was launched by the Labour Department.

    The case involved a fatal accident which occurred on August 21 last year. A security guard who worked at a shipyard in Lai Chi Kok was found drowned at sea.

    According to sections 6(1) and 6(2)(c) of the Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance, the employer shall provide such information, instruction, training and supervision as may be necessary to ensure the safety and health at work of the employee(s). Any employer who fails to do so is liable to a fine of $200,000 and to imprisonment for six months.
