A 47-year-old male prisoner was found suddenly fell unconscious while working in a workshop's computer room of Stanley Prison at about 9.30am today (June 14).
First aid was immediately given at the scene, a spokesperson of the Correctional Services Department said. After receiving treatment from the medical officer in Stanley Prison, he was sent to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital and was certified dead at 10.30am. Records show that he received operation for heart disease a month ago.
The case was reported to police and his relative was informed. An inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.
The prisoner, surnamed Chai, was convicted of "trafficking in a dangerous drug" in 2001 and was given a 16-year sentence.
