Strategic forum pools ideas for logistics industry (with photos)
*********************************************************

Industry experts and stakeholders in the logistics sector today attended a forum jointly organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and the Hong Kong Logistics Development Council (LOGSCOUNCIL) to discuss ways to maximise opportunities and overcome challenges for Hong Kong as a preferred logistics hub.

This strategic forum is part of the research project "Hong Kong as a Preferred Logistics Hub: User Survey-and-Strategic Forum" jointly undertaken by the HKTDC and the LOGSCOUNCIL.

The Permanent Secretary for Transport and Housing (Transport), Mr Francis Ho, launched the forum with a speech.

Mr Ho said that Hong Kong's logistics industry was facing growing competition and opportunities on the Mainland.  It was an opportune moment to review the strategic direction of the industry.

He said the Government would continue to provide an enabling business environment, taking forward projects like the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge and the Guangdong-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link and encouraging the wide adoption of e-logistics solutions like Radio Frequency Identification and Global Positioning System, as well as the training to groom industry talent.

"The Government will count on the constructive partnerships with the private sector, industry players and professional bodies in charting the future development of our logistics sector," he said.

Apart from the forum, the project also comprises a survey of the views of more than 500 stakeholders, as well as more than 100 face-to-face interviews, to get the logistics industry's perception of its development.

The speakers and panellists of the forum were Legislative Councillor Ms Miriam Lau, Chairman of the Hong Kong Shippers' Council Mr Willy Lin, Chairman Emeritus of DHL Express (Hong Kong) Ltd Mr Chung Po Yang, Managing Director of GHK Consulting Limited Dr Jonathan Beard, Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce Mr Alex Fong, and Chief Executive Officer of Strategic Access Limited Mr David Dodwell.
