Queen Mary Hospital fever cases

The follow is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

    The spokesperson of Queen Mary Hospital (QMH) made the following announcement today (June 11):

    Three paediatric patients (aged 7 months to 3 years old) of a Paediatric and Adolescent Medicine ward have presented with symptoms of fever, cough and runny nose since 2 June 2008.  Naso-pharygneal Aspirate tests have been conducted and results were positive for Respiratory Syncytial Virus. The patients are now being treated under isolation. Two patients with underlying chronic illness are undergoing intensive care management. 

    Infection control measures have been enhanced in the ward concerned.  The parents of the infected cases had been well informed of the situation.

    The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
