More emergency relief grants approved for earthquake victims in three provinces
************************************************************

The Government has approved two more grants totalling $4.25 million from the Disaster Relief Fund to Oxfam Hong Kong and Cedar Fund to undertake relief projects for earthquake victims in Gansu, Shaanxi and Sichuan Provinces on the Mainland.

The grants are further to a disbursement of $328.1 million made earlier for the Relief Headquarters of the Central Government; the Disaster Relief Command of Yingxiu Town Wenchuan County; the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, Sichuan Provincial Peoples' Government; The Amity Foundation; Hong Kong Red Cross and World Vision Hong Kong to provide emergency relief to victims affected by the earthquake in Sichuan Province. It takes the total value of grants for earthquake victims on the Mainland to $332.35 million.

Announcing the grants today (June 11), a government spokesman said that they hoped the two grants - one of $3.51 million to Oxfam Hong Kong and one of $740,000 to Cedar Fund - would help provide relief to earthquake victims in Gansu, Shaanxi and Sichuan Provinces.

"To ensure that the money will be used for the designated purposes, the relief agencies have been asked to submit evaluation reports and audited accounts on the use of the grants after the relief projects have been completed," the spokesman said.
