Pan-PRD Directors of Information Industry Joint Conference in Hong Kong

    The 10th Pan-Pearl River Delta (PRD) Regional Co-operation Directors of Information Industry Joint Conference and Information Technology Technical Forum was held in Hong Kong today (June 5).

    The joint conference is a platform set up in 2004 to promote exchange and foster co-operation among Pan-PRD provinces/regions including Hong Kong and Macau on matters relating to ICT development.

    Addressing the conference, the Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications and Technology), Mrs Rita Lau, said participation and co-operation in the Pan-PRD Region supported the national policy and contributed to the overall development of the region.

    ¡§The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) and Office of the Telecommunications Authority maintain close contact with their counterparts in the Pan-PRD provinces/regions. Efforts to promote regional co-operation include the signing of various agreements in IT industry, informatisation and radio spectrum management, and formulation of collaboration initiatives on topics of common interest," Mrs Lau said.

    ¡§We look forward to enhanced collaboration in the Pan-PRD Region. We believe that taking a pragmatic approach aimed at achieving mutual benefits, we will be able to create synergy among our individual strengths and enhance our overall competitiveness.¡¨

    At the conference, OGCIO presented the 2008 Digital 21 Strategy as HKSAR¡¦s blueprint for ICT development.  A technical forum was held concurrently with the conference, at which government and industry specialists met to exchange experience on data centre management.

    The joint conference is held twice a year attending by representatives from the information industry departments of the Pan-PRD provinces - Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, and the Hong Kong and Macau SARs.
