The Labour Department will launch its Customer Service Teams Project again this summer to enhance the occupational safety and health awareness of those operating and working in small and medium-sized enterprises.
People interested in joining the project as volunteers are welcome to register at the Labour Department from tomorrow (June 1).
A spokesman for the Labour Department said no effort was spared in raising employers' and employees' awareness of occupational safety and health. "This year, catering establishments as well as small and medium-sized enterprises engaged in wholesale and retail services will be the targets of visits by our volunteers," the spokesman said.
"We hope to recruit about 250 volunteers to visit more than 15,000 establishments in the next four months to promote the department's services on occupational safety and health and to disseminate relevant information."
"During the visit, project members will conduct a questionnaire survey to assess the basic work safety and health knowledge of those in charge of the organisations and distribute publicity material on occupational safety and health and the relevant laws," he said.
Volunteers aged 17 or above and who have attained secondary school level or above are welcome to join the project. Before they start their service, they have to attend a one-day training course to learn about details of the project, basic safety knowledge and communication skills.
Enrolment forms and project details can be obtained from all offices of the Labour Department's Occupational Safety and Health Branch or from the Central Office for Volunteer Service of the Social Welfare Department. They can also be downloaded from the website of the Labour Department (http://www.labour.gov.hk) or the Social Welfare Department's website on Volunteer Movement (http://www.volunteering-hk.org).

The project will be launched from mid-June until September. When completed, certificates will be presented to the volunteers in recognition of their service.
The Labour Department has been organising this project jointly with the Social Welfare Department since 1999. The project has been well received and the volunteers have visited more than 118,000 workplaces.
